This course surveys the dynamic operations and economics of the media industry. The course focuses on media institutions as revenue generating businesses and their ongoing role in the development and distribution of content. The aim is to explore the infrastructure of US television, film, and other media institutions and their various economic models, illuminate the lifecycles of their products, and illustrate the business decisions that led to their inception and continued existence. Moreover, the course clarifies the business relationship between TV networks, streaming providers, production studios, and the financial conditions that facilitate the development and circulation of content. 3 Credit(s). 3 Contact Hour(s).
