Mathematics studies the concepts related to quantity, space, change, pattern and structure. Ferrum College’s Mathematics curriculum allows the student to learn traditional areas of mathematics, such as Calculus, Geometry and Algebra, while developing the ability for deductive reasoning and problem-solving. The Ferrum College B.S. in Mathematics prepares the student who plans to pursue a career in business, industry, government, or secondary education, as well as the student who plans to continue learning Mathematics in graduate school.

The Experiential Component (requirement of the major) in the program is met by the successful completion of laboratory courses.

Ferrum College offers teaching licensure in Mathematics (grades 6-12) through the selection of a minor in Teacher Education with specialization in Secondary Education. This licensure requires passing state mandated testing prior to enrollment in EDU 402 - The Profession of Teaching: The Student Teaching Field Experience and EDU 403 - The Profession of Teaching: The Student Teaching Synthesis Experience . Students pursuing licensure must complete all components of the Teacher Education Minor.
